1 Samuel 3:8-10
8 A third time the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. 9 So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’”
So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!”
Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”
Every time I read about Samuel of course it brings me to one of my favorite hymns.
Here I Am Lord.
Samuel studied under Eli but didn’t recognize…
Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD: The word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him. (1 Samuel 3:7 NIV)
My first reaction to this verse was, “How sad that he did not yet know the Lord”. The first verse in this chapter is “The boy Samuel ministered before the Lord under Eli. In those days the word of the Lord was rare; there were not many visions.” Eli apparently knew the Lord. He told Samuel to say, “Speak Lord for your servant is listening.”
How beautiful it was that the Lord called out to Samuel! I spent many years of my life not knowing God. I couldn’t find Him because I didn’t know Him. …
Samuel 3–6
I see here a blessing from God to Hannah. His name is Samuel. And then Hannah gifting back to God her blessing, Samuel. To be a servant of the Lord.
And then, Samuel, not knowing the Lord fully, did not hear the first three cries. Or did he , and just not know that it was here. We’re on the fourth call from the Lord Samuel, then answers.
Reflection
I can look back in my lifetime, and wonder how many times the Lord has called me. And I failed to hear. Again my journey was off, and on my younger years with knowledge of God, and growth and faith. But my true journey began at 50 only about…
What is quinzong? Listening? Samuel? Cluelessness? thanks
Hello~ everyone~ Today I used a translator for my devotion in Korea! Please look at my translator’s work and let me know if this works good for you. Subject: Qingzong. Verse: [1 Sam.3:10] And the LORD came and stood, and called unto Samuel, Samuel, as before: and Samuel said, Speak, for thy servant will hear. Discovery: Samuel recognized the voice of God the fourth time. Realization: I'm sure there are many times I've recognized....10 and not heard... Application: Let's become more spiritually sensitive to hear the Lord's voice, and as soon as we hear it, let's confess and immediately obey, "Your servant hears and will obey"! Prayer: Lord, have pity on my cluelessness and keep speaking to me until I understand. Your servant will hear and obey. In Jesus' name…
