A Letter from Gil and Hannah on September 1, 2023
Missional Connection
In September, we will have a new connection with a GBGM mission, Courtney Randall, via Zoom on Sunday Worship, September 10, 2023. She will introduce her new mission in Ireland and share the Word of God with us. A Q & A session will follow her message as well.
The Benefit of a New Connection
I love making new connections with people in my life. Meeting someone new provides a fresh perspective I may never have considered before, broadens my outlook, and allows me to discover a world I've never seen, or deepens my understanding of it. I am excited about the prospect of many more new connections in my life. I trust that God will work through these new connections in our lives.
[Romans 8:28, NIV] - "And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
Benefit of a Missional Connection
Missional connections, in particular, open our eyes to witness the various works of God in our world. We might often live within our familiar local context, but when we connect with global missionaries in foreign countries, our perspective broadens to encompass a wider and deeper understanding of God's work, an experience that is rare in our local context. I am thankful for the new technology of our age that enables us to make global connections with missionaries all around the world.
Missional Balance - "GloCal Balance"
There are four areas of mission fields in the world. Mission Field #1 is located in the same region and shares the same culture. Mission Field #2 is located in the same region but has a different culture, such as Koreans in Scarborough, ME. Mission Field #3 is situated in a different region or country but shares the same culture, like Americans in Africa. Mission Field #4 is located in a different region with a different culture, such as Africans in Africa. When we have a missional perspective on these four areas of mission fields, we can see God's mission in balance.
A Missional Life is The Way Christian Life Should Be - from "The Way Life Should Be"
My favorite phrase in Maine is "The Way Life Should Be." I drew inspiration from this phrase for Christian life: "A Missional Life is The Way Christian Life Should Be." We, as the people of God, are called to be sent. I hope and pray that this missional identity will shape us into better and more faithful servants of God, disciples of Jesus Christ, and bearers of the Holy Spirit.
Your Companions in Christ,
Gil and Hannah Lee
