Day 17 : Systemic Reading
Reflecting and Recording
Which of the questions in the preceding paragraph challenges you the most right now? Why?
How does your reading of the Bible correspond with Wesley’s statement that we should read scripture with “ a desire to save our soul”?
Relating
Compare the devotional plan or material you are presently using with the main
ideas of today’s reading. How does it help you fulfill the Wesleyan principles
we’ve just seen?
How can you modify it to make it even more effective?
Is it possible that you may need to use other material to better achieve these
ends?
Day 17
Systematic reading
1. Which of the questions in the proceeding paragraph challenges you most right now ? And why?
I hadn’t really thought much about making notes or isolating, passages or highlighting anything during my reading, we have been reading the scripture here on Wix, and then doing our reflection and devotion to the reading for each. I guess that’s my way of keeping track of what I’ve read and how it’s made me feel at the time I brought up. I plan on going back to my devotions once I have completed the full reading of the entire Bible. And in which case I plan on doing it again. And perhaps then I will do a double…
Question 1. The question that challenges me the most is “Do I read scripture in large enough portions to see isolated passages in their larger context?”
Like Wesley, my goal is quality--not quantity. I choose to live daily what I learn from God’s Word. I would rather read small amounts of scripture to achieve that goal and not get lost in more than I feel the Lord is leading me to learn that day.
Question 2. Every time I read the Bible it is with a desire to find my way to God. Every word leads me to Him if I read and study with that focus in mind.
Relating: Unfortunately, I am involved in too many studies right now…
