Day 24 : Unworthy Reception

Reflection and Recording

  1. Which of Wesley’s three points about unworthiness speaks the strongest word to you Why?

  2. How does the traditional invitation in the Communion ritual shed further light on the ultimate design of the sacrament?

Relating

Is there anyone you know who needs to hear Wesley’s three points and

thereby find deliverance from a false and unscriptural sense of unworthiness?

Use this moment to pray for that person and for an opportunity to share this

good news with him or her.

I get very confused when I think about worthiness vs. unworthiness because of my Catholic upbringing. I guess some of it stayed with me. I understand that Jesus died on the cross for my sins and I work every day on getting rid of "Catholic guilt".

But I also believe that you should not receive Communion just for the sake of doing it because everyone else does. It's not a ritual during the service. It's an answer to an invitation and one that you can only accept with your heart.

I would say is the first. The unworthiness.

We take the sacrament as a renewal of that grace that was shared for us.

I agree that an individual who is falling down, drunk, probably should remain seated. But then I would second-guess myself and say if the Holy Spirit speaks to him, and…
