Devotional Life in WT_Day 25

Day 25 : Proper Preparation

Reflecting and Recording

  1. How are your preparations for Communion like or unlike those of Wesley? What insights did you gain from his example?

  2. Do you have any devotional material that helps you prepare for Communion? If so, plan to take it with you to this week’s group meeting.

Relating

Find out when the next celebration of the Lord’s Supper will take place in your

church. Follow Wesley’s pattern by beginning on Thursday evening to prepare

for proper reception.

Use your devotional periods on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning to

continue the preparation.

On Sunday, consider going into the sanctuary earlier than usual to bring your

preparation to maximum openness to God and to the grace offered you in the

Lord’s Supper.

I find it amazing that with Wesley's views on Communion that he only received Communion once a week.

It never occurred to me to prepare days in advance. This is the first time I've heard of this practice. I like the idea of going up to receive Communion rather than in some churches having it passed to the congregants. It makes it more of a conscious choice.

I don't use devotional material to prepare for Communion. I read my Bible every morning, but necessarily to prepare for Communion. Although, I wonder why it is just once a month and not every week.

At the time that they receive the sacrament during the dinner. I still believe that the sacraments to me are very personal and a direct connection between Christ and yourself. Then it’s a covenant that you’re taking with him a renewal of your acceptance of him into your heart. And a forgiveness for…

Day 24

Proper preparation

1. How are your preparation’s for communion like or unlike those of Wesley? What insights did you game from his example?

I found it interesting that he would start his preparation on a Thursday and continue to go through until Sunday. In searching his heart, and being truly repent for sins and misgivings. But that it was not absolutely necessary. And that no fitness is required at the time of communicating , but he sense of our state of our other sinfulness and helplessness. Be recognized.

I can’t say that I’ve actually thought about communion in this way or fashion.

I’ve always taken communion as a point of reconnecting. It is a time for me. To…
