Devotional Life in WT_Day 31

Day 31 : Types of Fasting

Reflecting and Recording

  1. What benefit do you receive in knowing there is more than one way to practice fasting?

  2. What do you think Wesley would say to a diabetic about fasting?

Why is this leakage between physical health and fasting important?

Relating

In our day Richard Foster has suggested that if the main purpose in fasting is

to concentrate on God, we may need to fast from things other than food.

He suggests such things as television and telephone.

How does this expanded version of fasting invite you to personal and creative

growth?

Is there anything besides food from which you need to fast?

I have mixed feelings about fasting. I believe our bodies are temples of the Lord. I see the point of fasting, but question why we use our bodies to show a dimension of our faith. I don't feel I need to take something away, whether food or something else, to show my devotion and dedication to the Lord. I want to add something to that faith, not take something away.

I like the idea that you are able to give up some thing. That is more interfering with your time with God. I do not consider food to be an interference of my relationship with God. I’d sooner think that there are much more distractive things in my life they keep me From my devotions with him.

And these are the things…
