In a booklet published years ago titled Spiritual Dryness, Walter Trobisch
speaks of the danger of Christians becoming spiritually bloated.
This condition occurs, he writes, when we become too much engaged in the
intake dimensions of the spiritual life and not enough concerned about the
outflow.

By combining the two together, you have a larger means, and a full range of spiritual life, both inward, and outward
I think if you were to separate them, you would have an in balance. One that would be non-productive. To have a full range of spiritual life. One must take care of themselves, but they also need to take care of others.
