Isaiah 1-4

The first sermon? A verse intended as a title to a whole book . A sad complaint of the judgments of God . An earnest call to repentance and reformation, ruin the to those who do not. A promise.

A new Sermon, the discourse of Judah and Jerusalem. The glory of Christians , their sin and shame. God humbles them. Leaves them to fall into confusion and disorder. The abuse of power and defiance of God. The threatening of paucity and scarceness of men .

A promise of restoration, of peace and purity, righteousness and of safety, in the days of the messiah. In this all , mercy is remembered.

Heavenly Father, how strong and patient you are…

Rebellious Nation

2 Hear me, you heavens! Listen, earth!

For the Lord has spoken:

“I reared children and brought them up,

but they have rebelled against me.

3 The ox knows its master,

the donkey its owner’s manger,

but Israel does not know,

my people do not understand.”

4 Woe to the sinful nation,

a people whose guilt is great,

a brood of evildoers,

children given to corruption!

They have forsaken the Lord;

they have spurned the Holy One of Israel

and turned their backs on him.

Lord

Forgive us it seems that we have fallen into this position. You have told us of the what sinful natures will bring to us and we have put on blinder…
